That used to be me too—rolling out of bed just 10 minutes before I had to log in to work while remote. I didn’t even take the time to pull myself together properly, which left me feeling unconfident and off-kilter. At that point in my life, I felt like I was just existing to work that job. It was so unfulfilling that one day I woke up and knew I had to make a change. It was hard, but with consistency, I eventually became a 5 AM girly, embracing a full two-hour routine. That’s when things really began to shift in my life.
I am a firm believer that discipline can and will open many doors for you. Developing the discipline to maintain a morning routine that focuses on your emotional, physical, mental, and spiritual well-being is a major flex. You’ll find that your overall well-being just feels better.

Is your goal to have more energy throughout the day? Focus on building a workout routine. Are you aiming for spiritual growth? Incorporate practices like gratitude journaling or reading a chapter from the Bible to kick off your day. If gut health is your priority, start with warm lemon water and a green smoothie before having your morning coffee. Think about what activities would help set a positive tone for your day.
Start with Small Habits
You don’t have to jump into a full two-hour morning routine right away—let me say it again: YOU DO NOT HAVE TO START WITH A FULL TWO-HOUR MORNING ROUTINE! Doing so would likely set you up for failure. Start small and gradually work your way up to your desired routine. You might begin by waking up just 30 minutes earlier than usual and focusing on journaling for 5 minutes. Here’s a fantastic daily 5-minute journal that I currently use. For the remaining 25 minutes, consider doing a quick workout from YouTube or going for a walk to get your body moving. I’ve found that when I work out in the mornings, I magically have more energy throughout the day. The key here is to simply start somewhere and build gradually.
Choose the Right Time to Wake Up
Having a consistent sleep schedule helps regulate your body’s circadian rhythm, which is essentially your internal clock. This rhythm plays a crucial role in signaling when it’s time to sleep and when to wake up. It also helps regulate several essential bodily functions, including hormone production, digestion, heart rate, blood pressure, and urine output. To function at your best, it’s vital to get at least 7 hours of sleep each night. With that in mind, take the time to experiment with different sleep and wake times to find out what works best for you and your schedule.
Incorporate Wellness Activities
Taking care of your mental and physical well-being first thing in the morning is a powerful way to set yourself up for success. Engaging in practices like meditation can help quiet your mind, allowing you to check in with yourself and assess how your body feels that day. Additionally, exercising for at least 25-30 minutes will boost your energy levels and get your body moving to tackle the day ahead. Incorporating deep breathing exercises can calm your nervous system, reduce stress, and improve heart and lung function, among other health benefits. Prioritizing your mental and physical health in the morning is a fantastic strategy for achieving a successful day.
Focus on Mindfulness & Gratitude
Taking a mindful moment, as suggested by the name of this blog, and expressing gratitude is a powerful way to set a positive tone for your day. This can take various forms, whether it’s through prayer, gratitude journaling, simple reflection, or even a combination of all three. Engaging in a mindful moment can help you become more intentional in your actions and decisions throughout the day, fostering a greater sense of purpose and clarity. Embracing this practice can enhance your overall well-being and outlook, setting a positive foundation for whatever challenges or opportunities may arise.
Limit Distractions & Create Focus
One of the greatest benefits of waking up earlier than the rest of the world is enjoying the peacefulness that comes with it. While this approach may not be feasible for everyone, especially those with kiddos, finding a quiet moment in the morning can significantly enhance your day. If waking up early isn’t an option, aim to limit distractions during your morning routine. This means putting away your phone, avoiding social media, and steering clear of work emails until you’ve completed your essential practices. The goal is to create a focused environment where you can concentrate on yourself and your intentions for the day ahead.

It’s important to remember that there is no one-size-fits-all morning routine. As mentioned earlier, it’s best not to jump into an extensive two-hour routine right away. Instead, focus on what works best for you personally. Tailor your morning rituals to align with your unique schedule, priorities, and individual needs.
